Radiology Technician

Under general supervision, Radiologic technologists, also referred to as radiographers, produce x ray films/MRI /CT/Fluoroscopy (radiographs) of parts of the human body for use in diagnosing medical problems. They prepare patients for radiologic examinations by explaining the procedure, removing articles such as jewelry, through which xrays cannot pass, and positioning patients so that the parts of the body can be appropriately radiographed.

Job Responsibilities::

  • Apply and execute quality control policy according to MOH Kuwait on all equipment applicable
  • Observe all safety regulations set by the manufacturers while using any of the radiology equipment.
  • Give appointments and preparation for patients when needed.
  • Strictly observe the 10 days rule on female patients.
  • Checking on the requests for radiology exams.(any missing data must be obtained before proceeding with the exam).
  • Execute radiology examination only after fully understanding the requests written by the physicians.
  • Apply all safety measures to keep the radiation dose as low as possible for the patients or staff (lead protection, collimation, high technique)
  • Strictly follow the established protocols in diagnostic imaging dept. (exposure factors, distance, positions, slice thickness, sequences etc.), while performing any radiology exam.
  • Monitor equipment operation and report any malfunctioning to supervisor without any delay.
  • Perform all types of radiology exams which you are licensed for (general radiology exams, mammography, fluoroscopy, contrast exams, bone densitometry, ct-scan and mri)
  • Explain procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.
  • Operate mobile equipment’s such as portable x-ray machine and c-arm whenever needed.
  • Proper positioning of the patients on examination table or stand for every exam.
  • Setting the optimum parameters for radiology exam.
  • Calculate the exact amount of contrast needed for oral or i.v. administration.
  • Monitor the patients’ vital signs during contrast administration by the radiology nurse and notify the radiologist of any relevant changes
  • Incorporate the proper name of the patients on each film.
  • Process the exposed films using film processors or laser imagers.
  • Observe the quality of each film and repeat work which did not meet the established standards.
  • Assure that all supplies needed in day to day work such as films, contrast, cannulas, catheters are present and expiry dates are o.k.
  • Keep a list of all emergency drugs needed in radiology dept. Ready and make sure that Radiology Nurses are performing a daily check on the expiry dates.
  • Coordinate work with other staff of dept. Radiologists, technologists, and nurses in performance of more complicated procedures.
  • Maintain records of patients examined, examinations, views, factors used, number of films and exposures.
  • Assist with on the job training of new employees and provide input to supervisors, regarding training performance.
  • Arrange appointments for radiology exams performed under coordinating it with anesthesiology department.
  • Check on the auto mixer levels regularly and add a developer or fixer when needed.
  • Daily check the crossover cleanness of the film processors.
  • Keep a monthly statistics file.
 
 
Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor in Radiology technology from recognized institution
  • PACS knowledge
  • BLS /ACLS valid certification
  • 3 to 5 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • MOH Licensed in MRI
